Discover Alpaca Sunrise Farm

Our Alpaca Journey

Alpaca Sunrise Farm is our family farm in Medina, Ohio, where we raise alpacas and enjoy sharing their wonderful fiber with others. From caring for our herd to offering alpaca yarn, socks, hats, scarves, and other products, our farm reflects our appreciation for these gentle animals and the natural qualities of their fiber.

The Natural Benefits of Alpaca Fiber

Alpaca fiber is naturally soft, warm, breathable, and durable. Its insulating qualities help keep you warm without the bulk of heavier fibers, making it comfortable in a variety of seasons. Available in more than 20 natural colors, alpaca fiber offers beautiful shades as well as practical warmth. Its naturally lanolin-free composition makes it a wonderful alternative for many people who prefer something different from traditional wool.

Mill-Spun vs. Handspun

Mill-Spun Alpaca Yarns

Our mill-spun yarn is professionally processed at a U.S.-based mill for a more consistent texture and thickness. It is a good choice for projects where even stitches and a uniform finish are desired.

Handspun Alpaca Yarns

Our handspun yarns have individual character, with natural variations in thickness, twist, and texture. Each skein offers a distinctive look for creative projects where the yarn itself adds interest.

Yarn Care Instructions

Hand wash in lukewarm water with mild wool wash. Do not agitate—gently press, don’t rub. Rinse in water at the same temperature to help prevent felting. Blot dry with towel, then lay flat to finish drying. Wash dyed yarns separately the first time some color may bleed.

Things Know Before Ordering

A NOTE ABOUT COLOR, NATURAL FIBERS & YARNS

  • We make every effort to accurately represent the colors and images of our products, but colors may vary slightly from what appears on your screen due to monitor settings, lighting, and photography. The natural characteristics of alpaca fiber and other natural fibers, as well as variations in dyes, may also result in subtle differences in color and texture.
  • Because our yarns are made from natural, farm-raised alpaca fiber, you may occasionally find a small fleck of hay or other natural pasture material in the yarn. These minor natural remnants are a normal part of working with farm-raised fiber.
  • Yarn yardage, weight, and wraps per inch (WPI) are approximate. Because our yarns are handspun and/or made from natural fibers, these measurements may vary slightly. WPI is provided as a general indication of yarn thickness and may vary depending on how the yarn is wrapped and measured.
  • These natural variations are part of what makes each product unique.
